HE CUT HIS THROAT.
Rev. Burnett, Presbyterian Minister of Manning Attempts Suicide.
The Rash Act Was Caused By An Unbalanced Mind.

Last evening word was received in Manning that Rev. A.J. Burnett, Presbyterian minister of Manning, attempted to commit suicide at Carroll. It is impossible to get the full particulars at this hour by wire, but so far as known they are substantially as follows: Mr. Burnett left some two weeks ago for Chicago and was expected home yesterday morning. He arrived at Carroll Thursday night. He showed signs of insanity while on the cars, and when he reached Carroll he was placed in charge of friends. Some time yesterday he broke away from his guard and was not caught until he had gone a couple of miles into the country. One report says that he cut the arteries in his wrists while in the country and after being captured cut his throat, though not seriously.
It is doubtful whether he will survive as he lost much blood and is reported very weak.

Mrs. Burnett, accompanied by C.A. Barnes and J.P. Arp, left on the train last night for Carroll and will do what they can to relieve the unfortunate man.

THE CAUSE
Is said to be owing to despondency. He has a very large family and has had quite bad luck since his arrival to this country from Ireland, and it was his understanding that his services would not be wanted much longer by his congregation. Many rumors are afloat but it will take time to give the facts as they exist.
