Mrs. John H. Kuhl Passed Away.
March 31, 1910 Manning Monitor

Respected Lady Died at Her Home in This City Monday Morning.

Last Monday morning, April 11, at 4 o'clock in the morning Mrs. John H. Kuhl peacefully passed from this earth to the great beyond. Although she had been sick for some time it was not thought she was in great danger and until the last, hopes were held out for her recovery. All that mortal hands could do to stay the hour of death was done but of no avail.

Mrs. John Kuhl, formerly Miss Abel Asmus, was born in Burg, Germany, November 9, 1833, and died at Manning, Iowa, April 11, 1910, being at her death 76 years, 5 months and 2 days old. As a child she knew John H. Kuhl, being at that time in the same school. Later he courted and married her, the marriage taking place in Germany November 23, 1856. In 1873 they came to Davenport where they lived two years, coming directly to Crawford County from there. Seven children were born to them, five girls and two boys; however one of the girls died in infancy. The remaining children live in or near Manning and were present to mourn the death of their mother. The names of the children are as follows: Jacob Kuhl, Mrs. John Miller, Mrs. Henry Kuhl, Mrs. Charles Moelter, Mrs. William Kruse, and Julius Kuhl. Besides she leaves one brother and one sister in Germany, and a sister at Denison. One brother died about a year ago at Aspinwall. She also leaves twenty grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren to mourn her loss.

The funeral was preached by Rev. Harvey of the M.E. Church, Wednesday, at one o'clock, a large number being present to listen to his sermon and follow the remains to the Manning Cemetery where loving hands lowered the body to its last resting place.

Those acquainted with the deceased say she was a good neighbor, a loving wife and a devoted mother. The good she has done will live on in the lives of those with whom she had associated in her life. The bereaved husband and family have the heartfelt sympathy of a large number of friends.
