Dog Saves a Boy's Life.
Louie Jansen who last spring moved to a farm about seven miles southwest of here, is the proud possessor of, a St. Bernard dog which be would not part with at any price. Had it not been for this dog, his eight year old son, Albert, would have been drowned. Last Saturday evening his three sons, 10, 8 and 6 years old went with the hired man to bring in the cows. After they had gotten the cows, the three boys and the dog played along the bank of the Nishnabotna Creek which runs through the pasture. While playing, Albert got too near the edge and fell in. The recent rains had swollen the creek till it was about twelve feet deep. None of the boys could swim, so the other two started for the house to get aid. The large dog, that was fondly attached to the boy, did not desert him, but sprang in and caught him as he was going down the second time and brought him ashore. It would have been impossible for help to have come in time from the house and had it not been for the bravery and intelligence of the dog the boy would have surely been drowned.
