Alfred F. Dammann

Funeral services for Alfred Frederick Dammann were held Saturday, June 28, 1997, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa. Pastor Curt Dwyer officiated the service with Jennifer Drees as organist. Interment was held in the Manning Cemetery, Manning, Iowa, with Scott Dreier, Ray Thielen, Earl Singsank, Wilmer Ranniger, Arlo Dammann, and Roland Derner as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Lester Schrum, Glenn Steinke, and Norman Nissen.

Alfred was born December 7, 1913, in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa, the son of John and Ida Fischer Dammann. He was baptized on March 8, 1914, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He was confirmed on May 13, 1934, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township. Alfred attended country school near Manning and from 1934 until 1941 he owned a jewelry store in Manilla.

On March 6, 1942, Alfred was united in marriage with Lorraine Schroeder of Manning. Two children, Diane Caroline and Dennis Gene, were born to this union. Lorraine passed away in 1951 following a short illness.

On February 19, 1961, Alfred was united in marriage with Alta Mae Vrooman at First Presbyterian Church in Manilla. They lived on their farm south of Manning until retiring in 1976 at which time they moved into Manning.

On Thursday, June 26, 1997, Alfred died at Manning General Hospital following a short illness. He reached the age of 83 years, 6 Months, and 19 days.

Besides his parents and his first wife, Alfred was preceded in death by a sister; his son; Dennis Gene Dammann in 1971; a brother, Louie Dammann; and a sister, Elsie Farrell.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Alta Mae Dammann, of Manning; his daughter, Diane and her husband, Jack Hauswirth, of Des Moines; four grandchildren: Douglas Riley and his wife, Barbara, of Lytton; Cindi Riley of Mingo; Mark Riley and his wife, Mindy, of Lytton; Julie Riley of Humboldt; two great grandsons: Colton Riley of Lytton, and Jamie Riley of Humboldt; two sisters: Amanda Bogatzke of Manning and Luella Hammann of Denison. Alfred is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
