Alfred, son of Albert and Minnie Borkowski David, was born December 28, 1901, in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa. He attended German school at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township. After he finished his schooling Alfred worked with his father on the family farm in Lincoln Township.

On November 23, 1927, Alfred was united in marriage with Wilda E. Hinz at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. They continued to farm on the home place until his retirement in 1965 when they moved into Manning. At that time Alfred worked for a few years for Billie Taggart on his farm and in 1973 began caring for the Manning City Park. When Alfred turned 80 he felt that it was time to retire. On December 2, 1981, his wife, Wilda, died. Alfred continued to live in their home in Manning until 1988 when it became too difficult for him to care for himself, at which time he became a resident of the Friendship Home in Audubon. When he was able, Alfred thoroughly enjoyed fishing and throughout his life he enjoyed music with his family. In later years he played lots of cards and simply enjoyed being with people for a good visit.

After a stay in the hospital Alfred became a resident of the Atlantic Care Center for about a week before his death there on Sunday, April 5, 1992, at the age of 90 years, 3 months, and 8 days.
