Born at Defiance, Iowa, March 17, 1930. Died the 15th day of January 1954, near Irwin, Iowa.

PRAYER
Grant, O Lord, we beseech Thee, that whilst we lament the departure of our brother, Thy faithful servant, out of this life, we may bear in mind that we are most certainly to follow him. Teach us to see Thy good and gracious purpose working in all grief and trials. Grant unto Thy servant, Alfred Bernard, the joys of that life with Thee which is above understanding, which Thou desirest to grant to innocence and faithfulness. Amen.

Tragedy struck one of our Aspinwall homes Saturday when it was learned that Al Henkelman, young husband and father, had lost his life in an auto accident. The accident occurred sometime Friday night or early Saturday morning on a highway 3 1/2 miles west of Irwin, where the car left the road, turned over, landing upright with the victim pinned underneath. The accident was discovered by a passing motorist at 8:45 a.m. Saturday.

Al was employed as carpenter at Harlan, driving back and forth to Work daily.

Alfred Bernard Henkelman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Henkelman of Manilla, was born March 17, 1931. He attended the Manilla school, graduating from high school with the class of 1947.

On Jan. 21, 1948, he was married to Betty Lou Ehrichs of Aspinwall.

The couple took up housekeeping, purchased their home and were residents of Aspinwall since that time.

Besides his widow and his parents, survivors are three children, Terry Lynn, 5, Cindy Lou, 3, and Timothy; six brothers, Ed of Chicago, Kenneth of Napa, Calif., Jimmy in the service in Korea, Donald, Maurice and Morrell at home; four sisters, Mrs. Wayne Ranniger, Mrs. Stanley Nissen of Manning, Mrs. Charles Dillard of Montibello, Calif., and Patricia at home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 9:30 at the Sacred Heart church in Manilla with Rev. Leroy Frank officiating. Burial was made in the Mt. Olivet cemetery with the Ohde Funeral home in charge.

Pallbearers were Claudius Hansen, Ed Hinners, Roy Hofsommer, Virgil Farley, Al Langheim and Karl Mahnke.
