Obituary.
At his home in Kearney, Nebraska, on Wednesday, September 11th Alfred Hockett passed away. He had been ailing for several years with rheumatism and had not been able to do any hard work, but his condition was not considered dangerous until the last few days prior to his demise. It was this with other complications that caused his death.

Alfred Hockett was known to everyone in this vicinity, having lived two miles west of town for twenty-two years. He was always cheerful, a good business man and

a man of his word. Since a boy he has been engaged more or less in the buying and selling of stock, and in order to make it more extensive he moved to Kearney seven years ago and about two years later sold his farm two miles west of Manning. He was a good, kind husband and father.

Alfred Hockett was born in Marshall County, Iowa, June 20, 1857, and died September 11, 1901, making him 44 years, 2 months and 21 days old. When but a boy he moved with his parents to Crawford County west of Manning, and on August 27, 1884, he was married to Miss Estella Branson. To this union three children were born, two of whom are still living. He was a member of the Mystic Legion Lodge at the time of his death in which he carried a policy of $1500. The remains were brought to Manning Friday evening and Saturday morning at 11 o'clock the funeral was held in the M.E. Church conducted by Rev. Farrell of Irwin after which the casket containing all that was mortal of Alfred Hockett was deposited in the grave at the Manning Cemetery.

The bereaved wife and children have the deepest sympathy of this entire community in this sad hour of affliction.
