Alice, daughter of Ernest A. and Alvena C. (Hamann) Wenzel, was born on December 24, 1922, at rural Manilla, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended rural school in that area and then did housework in the neighborhood and for relatives.

Alice was united in marriage with Arlo J. Bornhoft on March 26, 1944, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. Five children were born to this union. The family lived and farmed in rural Westside until 1953 when they moved south of Manilla, where they continued farming until 1977. Alice was a busy mother and housewife, however she also enjoyed reading, doing word search puzzles, embroidery and being outside in her big garden. She was a fantastic cook and baker of many cookies and other goodies. Though she never drove a car, it did not impact the scope of her life. Alice was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and put in many volunteer hours through the church.

Arlo died in 1983, and Alice lived in their home in Manilla until November of 2009. She moved to the Reed House assisted living facility in Denison. At the end of 2011, Alice was hospitalized and subsequently moved to the Manilla Manor nursing home. She died there on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at the age of 89 years, two months and 23 days.

Alice is preceded in death by her husband Arlo Bornhoft; son Douglas Bornhoft (Sheila); daughter Julie Mooney; son-in-law Bradley Georgius; sister Mae Popp (Marvin); and brother Gifford Wenzel (Phyllis).

She is survived by her children: Dennis Bornhoft (Sara) of Manilla; Byron Bornhoft (Patricia) of Manilla; and Lana Georgius of Manilla; son-in-law Patrick Mooney of Denison; thirteen grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; other relatives and friends.
