Alice Hansen

Funeral services for Alice Hansen of Audubon, Iowa, were conducted by Pastor Marshall Brown on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Manning, Iowa. Interment was in the Hayes Township Cemetery near Westside, Iowa. The casket bearers will be her grandchildren Cory Hansen, Kevin Hansen, Kelli DeGroat, Michael Fisher, Robert Fisher, Jeramy Fisher, Amber Knipe, Ashley Bras, Sarah Nydegger, and Alyssa

Hansen. The family will meet with friends Monday evening at 4:00 P.M. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.

Alice Lowene Hansen, the daughter of George and Adeline (Bell) Wright Weighton, was born April 20, 1926, at her parents’ rural home in Audubon County, Iowa, and died February 18, 2011, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of 84 years, 9 months, and 28 days.

Alice was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended rural school in Audubon County, attended the Audubon Community Schools, and then graduated from Gray High School with the Class of 1944. Following graduation she moved to and lived on the East Coast both in Washington and New York City for one year.

On November 21, 1945, she was united in marriage to Alvin W. Hansen in Omaha, Nebraska. Five children were born to this union. They moved to Waterloo, Iowa for six years, and then came back to the Gray, Iowa area where they farmed. In 1958 they moved into Audubon.

Alice was employed as a certified nurses assistant at the Friendship Home, then was a waitress at the Dinner Bell Cafe, and later worked as a welder for Emmert Manufacturing in Audubon and Noble’s in Sac City, Iowa. She retired in 1991.

During retirement Alice and Alvin traveled extensively domestically and internationally. In May of 1999 they moved to Manning, Iowa. Alvin died April 30, 2000. Alice enjoyed her home in Manning until 2005 when she moved to Orchard View in Carroll, Iowa. In December of 2009, she moved into St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Alice was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning. She loved to go out and eat and was well known in almost all of the area restaurants.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband Alvin; her parents; her brothers-in-law Melvin Hansen and Billy Hansen; and her sisters-in-law Mardelle Weighton and LaRue Hansen.

Survivors include her children Jeffrey and wife Kay Hansen of Yorkville, Illinois; Kimberley Fisher and Greg Bork of Bonita Springs, Florida; Gregory Hansen of Boulder, Colorado; Meladey and husband Christian Bras of Christchurch, New Zealand; and Tracey and wife Jodi Hansen of Grain Valley, Missouri; her son-in-law Clarence Fisher of Winterset, Iowa; her grandchildren Cory and wife Rachel Hansen, their children Grace, Ethan, Luke, and Ella; Kevin and wife Rachel Hansen, their children Kate, Emma, and Ava; Kelli and husband Richard DeGroat, their children Noah and Naomi; Michael Fisher, Robert Fisher and Victoria Lehman, their children Jeramy and Madison; Jeramy and wife Renee Fisher, their children Emily and Lily; Amber and husband Jamie Knipe and Ashley Bras; Sarah and husband Jeff Nydegger, their children Ayden and Olivia; and Alyssa Hansen. Her brother John (Jack) and wife Sharlette Weighton of Audubon, Iowa; her sister Mary Nelson of Dallas, Texas; her brothers-in-law Robert Hansen of Manning and Fred Orren Hansen of Denison; her sister-in-law Maureen Hansen of Perry, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
