ALVINA ELIZABETH BECKMAN

Alvina Elizabeth Beckman, 86, of Carroll, died Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Swan House in Carroll.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 3 2009, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Fr. Andrew Hoffman will officiate.

There will be a rosary by the Sacred Heart Altar Society at 4 p.m. and a prayer service by Fr. Hoffman at 7 p.m. today at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Manning.

Lector for the mass will be Michael Roth. Gift bearers will be Shirley Eischeid, Lois Roth, Gene Beckman, and John Beckman. Mass servers will be Jill Steffes and Daniel Umbarger. Eucharistic ministers will be Chris Dopheide and Dale Eischeid. Pat Heithoff will be the accompanist.

Casket bearers will be Rick Dopheide, Chris Dopheide, Mike Roth, Chuck Roth, Adam Beckman, Brian Beckman, Scott Beckman, and Corey Beckman.

A daughter of John and Anna (Bauer) Tigges, she was born September 19, 1922, near Willey. She attended St. Mary's School in Willey and later began working with her sister as a housekeeper.

On November 13, 1940, she married Gerhardt "Butch" Beckman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willey. The couple soon moved to Michigan and lived there for two years.

In 1942, Butch was drafted into the Army and served for four years. Upon his discharge the couple moved back to the Carroll area, settling in Manning in 1947.

She worked in Manning as a devoted wife and homemaker until 1965, when she began working for Nelson Manufacturing. She retired in the late 1970s.

On February 25 2009, Alvina became a resident of Swan House in Carroll while recovering from heart surgery.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society in Manning and in her spare time she playing Bingo, and watching Cubs baseball.

Survivors include her children: Shirley Eischeid of Carroll, Lois and husband Gene Roth of Omaha, Nebraska; Gene Beckman and wife Marlene of Omaha, Nebraska; and John Beckman and wife Sharon of Council Bluffs; 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Beckman was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Butch in 2006; five brothers: Victor, Otmar, Clarence, William, and Kenneth Tigges; six sisters: Alveda Hoesing, Catherine Feld, Regina Schenkelberg, Clotilda Tigges, Ellen Pfeiffer, and Patricia Smith; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Koenig Beckman; and two sons-in-law, Larry Dopheide and Fred Eischeid.
