Mrs. J. Bornhoft, 74,
Early Resident of Westside, is dead

Deceased passed away suddenly from heart attack at her home October 10.

Mrs. John Bornhoft Sr., a well known resident of this community, passed away suddenly at her home last Wednesday forenoon at the age of 74 years. While it was generally known Mrs. Bornhoft was not in robust health, her condition was not considered serious and her sudden death came as a shock to everyone. Heart trouble and complications were the cause of her death.

The deceased's maiden name was Alvina Blocker. She was the oldest daughter of 12 children of Mr. and Mrs. N.C. Blocker of Kiel, Germany.

She was united in marriage April 24, 1878, to J.H. Burmeister. Four children were born to this union: Mrs. J.D. Luth (Emma) of Ute, Richard, Mrs. D. Cronen (Anna) of Platte, Nebr., and Mrs. Ed Miller (Dora) of Seattle, Wash. The husband and father, with the son, Richard, and a daughter, Mrs. D. Cronen (Anna) preceded her in death.

On January 6, 1903, she was united in marriage to John Bornhoft. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, nine stepchildren, Mrs. Hy Schoessler (Anna), Mrs. George Jans (Clara), August, Walter, Henry, Gustav and John, all of Westside, Mrs. Hans Voss (Edna) of Austin, Minn., Mrs. Claude Gill (Ella) of Long Beach, Calif., four brothers and three sisters, Henry Blocker of Toronto, Ia., Charley Blocker of Los Angeles, Calif., Will Blocker of DeWitt, Ia., Dorabelle Kuehl of Davenport, Linda Rickey of Waterloo, Emma Holden of Gardena, Calif.

Funeral services were held at St. John's Evangelical church Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Krummel officiating at the services. Interment was in the Ute cemetery.

Relatives and friends from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Luth of Ute, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Miller and sons of Seattle, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Kiel of Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. Hy Blocker of Toronto, Ia., Mrs. Linday Rickey and Mrs. J.M. Jouty and son Vernon of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Holden of Gardena, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Gill and son of Long Beach, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Hans Voss of Austin, Minn., Mrs. and Mrs. John Elias and daughter of Lake View, Mr. and Mrs. McCutcheon of Denison and a number of friends. --- (Westside Correspondent.)
