Amanda Alvine, daughter of Otto Herman Neclaus and Helena Betty (Stark) Jentzen, was born February 15, 1911, on the family farm in Carroll County. Amanda was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. She attended country school south of Arcadia and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1929. Amanda then attended Normal Training at Storm Lake. On September 10, 1930, Amanda was united in marriage with Carl Arthur Kruse at the Lutheran parsonage in Arcadia. Three children were born to this union. Amanda and Arthur farmed her family farm from 1939 until Arthur's death on February 28, 1974. For a short time, 1956 - 1959, she was a cook at Manning General Hospital. Following her husband's death, Amanda remained on the farm with the help of her neighbor and good friend Stan Ewoldt. When her health began to fail in 2001, she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.

Amanda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. She enjoyed quilting, reading, playing cards and cooking.

Besides her parents and husband, Amanda was preceded in death by son Willis H. Kruse; son-in-law Keith Anderson; brothers Louie and Alvin Jentzen; sisters Emma Hansen and Henrietta Kruse; brothers-in-law: Ed Kruse, Hugo Hansen, George Hacker and Lewis Hagedorn; sister-in-law Vera Jentzen and a step sister-in-law Marie Hagedorn.

She is survived by son Arthur J. Kruse and wife Shirley of DeForest, WI; daughter Darlene Anderson of Fort Dodge; daughter-in-law Sharon Kruse of Banning, CA; special friend and farm tenant Stan Ewoldt of Manning; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Esther Hacker of Morgan, MN, and Ella Fuchs of Carroll; brothers Bill Jentzen of Westside, and Henry Jentzen and wife Florence of Pleasant Hill, CA; sister-in-law Norma Jentzen of Carroll; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
