Amos Wilhelm, son of Wilhelm Fredrick and Ella Ida (Ress) Asmus, was born June 27, 1929, in Audubon, Iowa. He graduated in 1947 from Audubon High School and then began farming. Amos served in the United States Marines from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he returned to farming in the Audubon area.

On June 12, 1957, Amos was united in marriage with Myra Emelia Willesen at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa. They continued to farm and raise their eight children. Over the years, Amos was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, St. John's Lutheran Church in Audubon, Zion Lutheran Church in Manning and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. He served faithfully on various committees, boards and appointments as a member of each congregation. Amos dutifully taught Sunday school and Bible Class for over 50 years. Amos was a 4-H Leader of the Lincoln Producers 4-H Club for 20 years, a member of the Southwest Iowa Farm Business Association and board member of the Audubon Coop. He was also a member of the American Hereford Association. He was a poultry consultant for the Iowa State Extension Service from 1987-1989.

Amos and Myra retired from farming in 2004 and then moved to Carroll in 2007. Amos enjoyed good health for a number of years after his retirement and was recently admitted to St. Anthony Hospital where he died on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 23 days.

Preceding Amos in death are his parents; sisters Alma Asmus and Arlene Bruhn; infant brother; grandson Benjamin Pedersen; mother and father in law Edwin and Elsie Willesen; sister in law Sharon Grimm; and brothers in law Emil Kurth and George Bruhn.

Amos is survived by his wife Myra E. Asmus of Carroll; six sons Mark (Michelle) Asmus of Audubon, David (Linda) Asmus of Alden, James (Lori) Asmus of Manilla, Jonathan Asmus of Audubon, Darrin (Roxanne) Asmus of Audubon and Stephen (Sarah) Asmus of Audubon; two daughters Melissa (Brad) Pedersen of St. Charles, Missouri, and Kathryn (David) Hughes of Chesapeake, Virginia; 23 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister Pearl Kurth of Carroll and brother-in-law Dennis Grimm of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
