THE FAMILY WISHES TO EXPRESS THEIR GRATITUDE FOR YOUR KINDNESS EVIDENCED IN THOUGHT, WORD, AND DEED, AND INVITES YOU TO JOIN THEM FOR LUNCH AND FELLOWSHIP AT THE CHURCH FOLLOWING THE FUNERAL SERVICE.

Amos Gustav Carsen, son of J.F. William and Martha (Pepper) Jahn, was born July 7, 1915, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. Amos was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith as a child. He attended Hayes No. 9 Country School through the eighth grade. Following his schooling he stayed at home to help with the farming. After the death of his father, Amos continued to live with his mother and take care of the farm work.

On September 22, 1937, Amos was united in marriage with Esther Pfoltner of Aspinwall at the Lutheran Parsonage in Manning. Three children were born to this union. They lived on the family farm with his mother until 1941 when they rented a farm south of Manilla. In 1950 Amos and Esther purchased a farm near Adair. After a successful life on that farm, they retired in 1979 and moved into their home in Adair. In 1994 they returned home to Manning where Esther died in 1996.

Amos was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. During his spare time and his retirement Amos enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards. He and Esther traveled in their motor home over the years and spent time with their children.

After the death of his wife, Amos' health began to decline and he became a resident of the Manning Plaza where he died on Thursday, March 16, 2000, at the age of 84 years, 8 months, and 9 days.

Besides his parents and wife, Amos was preceded in death by three sisters: Alva Wolfe; Bernice Stammer; and, in infancy, Wiletta Jahn; and one brother Hugo P.G. Jahn.

He is survived by his children: Deanna and her husband Estel Rasmussen of St. Joseph, MO; Dorene Wilson of Memphis TN; and Dale Jahn and his wife Janell of Omaha, NE; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one sister Ila Grimm of Manning; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
