Ann Jansen

Ann, daughter of Bernard and Anna (Neethan) Volquartsen was born May 8, 1912, near Dow City, Iowa. She attended the country schools near her home.

On October 6, 1937, she was united in marriage with Emil Jansen at Woodward, Iowa. To this union one daughter, Susan Kay, was born.
They made their home in Manning where Emil operated the Phillips 66 station west of town. Ann worked for Priebe and Sons, Inc. and for the Lewis Rheinhold Company.

Ann had been in failing health for the past few months and died on July 25, 1984, at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 17 days.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan, on June 6, 1968, and by her husband, Emil, on May 11, 1970. She was also preceded in death by her parents; by three sisters, Mrs. Lou (Hilda) Hammer, Mrs. Leon (Emma) Cramer, and Mrs. Cecil (Ella) Clothier; and by one brother, William Volquartsen.

She is survived by three brothers, Henry Volquartsen of Dow City, Carl Volquartsen of Mustang, Okla., and Paul Volquartsen of Manning, as well as nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Ann was a member of the Zion Lutheran Congregation in Manning and of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler and was a member of the First National Bank bowling team.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 28, 10:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning with Pastor Paul Krumm officiating. Zion Lutheran quartet were vocalists. Fern Jensen served as organist.

Interment was in Manning City Cemetery. Casketbearers were Louie Hammer, Tom Volquartsen, Larry Clement, Melvin Clothier, Bruce Jensen, and Mike Troutman.


Ann Jansen is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
