A Long Life Ended.
Mrs. C. Boyles, one of the pioneer settlers of this county, died at the home of her son, David Boyles, at Hartington, Neb., on last Sunday, July 29. The remains arrived in this city Tuesday evening, and the funeral exercises were held from the Christian Church Wednesday morning. The services were conducted by Rev. S.A. Roberts amidst a large concourse of sorrowing friends. She was laid to rest beside her husband and son in the cemetery west of town (Iowa Township).

Mother Boyles had hoped to end her days in Manning, but as the greater part of her family had removed to Lake City, she had decided to make her home in that town, and her household goods were shipped there only last week.

She needs no eulogy in order that the people may know and appreciate her life. Having been a resident here for so many years, her acquaintances were innumerable; highly respected as a neighbor, she was dearly loved as a mother, wife and friend. Only words of praise are spoken of her by those who have been associated with her in social and church work. In the latter she has been especially active, having been connected with the Christian Church here since its organization, and at all times was willing and ready to assist in the up-building of church interests. Having been an earnest and sincere Christian throughout her life, she had no fear of death, and turning to the silent and unknown future, she could rely with just and reasonable confidence upon that most impressive and momentous assurance ever delivered to the human race, "he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believes in Me shall never die."

Mrs. Anna (Brush) Boyles was born in Kentucky, in 1822; moved to Indiana with her parents and was there united in marriage with Mr. Cara Boyles; came to Iowa in 1862, and for the last twenty years has been a resident of this community. She was seventy-two years old at the time of her death. Seven children are left to mourn the loss of a mother, namely, D. Boyles, Hartington, Neb.; Elias and Wilkin Boyles, Lake City, Ia.; Martha Boyles and Mrs. Ida Bland, Manning, Ia.; Mrs. James Hilsabeck, Cal.; and Mrs. E.W. Ferguson) Andrew, Neb.
