Mrs. Anna Joens Of Manning Dies Monday Evening
Funeral Services Will Be Thursday in Lutheran Church

Mrs. Anna (Lemster) Joens, 80, who had lived in Manning for the last thirty years, died at 7 p. m. Monday, April 10, 1939, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Kruse, in Manning. Her death followed a week's illness of intestinal flu.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Lutheran Church, with Pastor John M. Ansorge officiating. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery, with Herman Lamp, Herman Kruse, Herman Jahn, Albert Joens, W.J. Schroeder, and Henry C. Ewoldt as pallbearers.

Born Anna Lemster at Remmels, Holstein, July 13, 1858, Mrs. Joens came to the United States when she was seven years old and lived at Westside. At the age of seventeen she married John Joens at Westside. After farming for many years, Mr. and Mrs. Joens retired in 1909 to make their home in Manning. Mr. Joens died in 1925.

Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. Henry Lohrmann (Emma), Flandreau, South Dakota; Mrs. Julius Molter (Amanda), Manning; Mrs. Harry Kruse (Laura), Manning, and Mrs. William Schroeder (Elsie), Manning. She also leaves one half-sister, Mrs. Louis Schroeder of Aspinwall.

Mrs. Joens was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.


Anna Joens is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
