Antje Lage gestorben

Following only a 2 week illness, despite medical assistance, the Grim Reaper took from our midst a good and loving mother and spouse and to increase the sorrow it must be that the heavily tried and burdened husband and his only daughter were ill so that they could not accompany the dear one to her final resting place.

Several weeks ago the husband was struck by a severe illness, and a doctor was called, from which he is slowly recovering. About two weeks ago his wife and nurse was taken to her sickbed from which, despite all care, she was released by death on Friday, the 11th of February in the morning at 8:30.

Antje Lage, born Klindt, was born August 4, 1839, in Fahren, in the Probstei, Holstein, Germany, and reached an age of 70 years, 6 months, and 7 days. In 1865 she wed Mr. Jakob Lage who was likewise born in the Probstei. For 45 years they shared in untroubled marriage, Luck and Hardluck, Joys and Sorrows, as is in all marriages, always one-with-the-other. In 1871 they emigrated to America and first settled in Clinton County where they resided until 1896 and then moved to Manning.

Those who remain to mourn are the surviving spouse and their only daughter, Wilhelmine, and her spouse, William Wolters, and children, Arnold and Lorena. In addition, her only sister, Kate Klindt, who is here on visit but lives in Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Hans Klindt in Manning and William Klindt in Arkansas.

The burial took place on Sunday, the 13th of February at 3:00 p.m. in the local cemetery. Pastor Wendt of Manilla officiated.

February 17, 1910 Manning Monitor
Death of Mrs. Jacob Lage.

Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Lage were pained to learn last Friday that Mrs. Antje Lage had passed away that morning. For two weeks she had been sick, and although everything possible was done by loving hands of relatives and friends, she quietly passed away. Those who have known her speak highly of her, saying she was a good neighbor, a kind mother and a loving wife.

She was born August 4, 1839, in Fahran, in der Probstei, Holstein, Germany, and died at her home in Manning February 11, 1910, being at her death 70 years, 6 months, and 7 days old. In 1865 she was married to Jacob Lage and with him six years later moved to America and settled in Clinton County. In 1896 Mr. and Mrs. Lage moved to Manning, where they have since resided. Left to mourn her death are the relatives Jacob Lage, husband, a daughter Minnie, and son-in-law, William Walters, and children Arnold and Lorena. Also a brother, Hans Klindt, of Manning, and William Klindt, another brother, of Arkansas. A sister, Katie Klindt, of Denver, Colorado, came some time ago on a visit and was present at the death.

The funeral was held Sunday at two o'clock, Rev. Wendt, of Manilla, preaching the sermon. Friends and relatives sorrowfully followed the remains to the Manning Cemetery, where she was finally laid to rest. There she sleeps and may her relatives and friends find consolation in the knowledge that she has lived a noble life and entitled to a place among the angels of heaven.
