Arla Madonna, daughter of Fred and Clara (Jochimsen) Lohrmann, was born November 15, 1918, in Crawford County, Iowa. She attended rural school near her home. She then remained at home to help her parents and neighbors.

On February 23, 1938, Arla was united in marriage with William Dammann at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Ansorge. They made their home on a farm northwest of Manning in Crawford County. Arla and Bill were the parents of four children. Arla helped her husband with the farming and raised a large garden. She was a wonderful homemaker, mother and thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arla was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Happy Hour Club. After the death of her husband in 1994, Arla remained at home on the farm until 1999 when she moved to the Willow Creek Apartments. When her health began to fail in August of 2009 she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home where she died on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 7 days.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; daughter Betty Schoba in 1995; son Dale Dammann in 1995; grandson Doug Dammann in 1999; son-in-law Allen Vinke in 2003 and siblings Ada Frahm; Elva Massmann; Lora Sander; and Frenz Lohrmann.

She is survived by her children Ruby Vinke of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and David Dammann and wife Linda of LaVista, Nebraska; son-in-law Gilbert Schoba of Manilla; daughter-in-law Carolyn Dammann of Manning; eight grandchildren: Bill Schoba and wife Candace; Scott Schoba; Karen and husband Dan McClelland; Michael Dammann and wife Jennifer; Melissa and husband Greg Betts; Jeffery Vinke and wife Jill; Stacy and husband Tim Green; and Shannon and husband Cory Honold; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law Erma Lohrmann of Carroll and Ruth "Toots" Bogatzke of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and brother-in-law Leroy "Tater" Dammann of Manning; many other relatives and friends.

Live Each Day to the Fullest
Live each day to the fullest.
Get the most from each hour, each day,
and each age of your fife.
Then you can look forward with confidence,
and back without regrets.
Be yourself but be your best self.
Dare to be different and follow your own star.
Don't be afraid to be happy
...enjoy what is beautiful
Love with all your heart and soul
Believe that those you love, love you.
When you are faced with decision,
make that decision as wisely as possible, then forget it.
The moment of absolute certainty never arrives.
And above all, remember that God helps those
who help themselves. Act as if everything depended on you
And pray as if everything depended on God.

THE FAMILY WISHES TO EXPRESS THEIR GRATITUDE FOR YOUR KINDNESS EVIDENCED IN THOUGHT, WORD AND DEED, AND INVITES YOU TO JOIN THEM FOR LUNCH AND FELLOWSHIP AT THE CHURCH HALL FOLLOWING THE COMMITTAL SERVICE.
