Mass of the Christian burial for Arlene Anne Hoffmann, 71, of Manning who died Wednesday, November 18, 1992 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 1992 at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Reverend Ralph Reinhart officiated the service.

Interment was held in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning with Harold Hoffmann, Todd Bierl, Bob Mueller, Randy Bierl, David Bierl, and Francis Zerwas as casketbearers.

A prayer service followed by a rosary were held Friday, November 20th, at 7:30 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home, Manning, Iowa.

Mrs. Hoffmann was born February 5, 1921, at Templeton, a daughter of Edward G. and Teresa (Heithoff) Bierl. She graduated from Carroll High School in 1938. From 1939-45, she served as deputy county clerk.

She and Robert H. Hoffmann were married August 11, 1945, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll with Reverend O.W. Koester officiating. They made their home in Artesian, South Dakota and later Trent, South Dakota, where Mr. Hoffmann managed the J.F. Anderson Lumber Co.

In 1953, they moved to Manning where Mr. Hoffmann became associated with Hoffmann Brothers Lumber Co.

Mrs. Hoffmann was active in the community and church affairs. She held membership in Sacred Heart Church, where she taught CCD classes for 25 years. She also served as den mother in Club Scouts.

She was preceded in death by her father and her husband, Robert.

Survivors include her son, Dean Hoffmann, and his wife, Silvia, of Manning; her daughter, Gail Drees, and her husband, Jeff, of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Nate Drees, Jimmy Drees and Jesus Hoffmann; her mother, Teresa Bierl, of Carroll; a sister, Doris Myer and her husband, Jack, of Fairmont, Minnesota; five brothers, Clifford Bierl and his wife, Jane, Harold Bierl and his wife, Lois, Orville Bierl, and his wife, Marina, Dennis Bierl, all of Carroll, and LaVerne Bierl and his wife, Norma Jean, of Cedar Rapids.


Arlene Hoffmann is buried in the Manning Catholic Cemetery.
