AUGUST KARSTEN, 60, DIED DURING SLEEP SATURDAY

Funeral services for August F. Karsten, 60, were held Tuesday, Nov. 20, 1945, from the Ohde Funeral home with the Rev. Arthur Raeside of the Presbyterian church conducting the services. Burial was in the Manning cemetery with the following acting as pallbearers: Peter Hargens George Kuhse, Herman Oppermann, Hugo Hansen, Fred Ehlers, Jr., and George Jackson.

Music at the funeral for August Karsten Tuesday, November 20, was a solo by Clifford M. Johnson and a quartet, Mrs. Nick C. Schrum, Mrs. Emma Dietz, Raymond Pratt and Clifford M. Johnson, Mrs. Henry W. Hagedorn, accompanist.

Mr. Karsten passed away early Saturday morning during his sleep at his home, death being due to a heart attack. He had been assisting in farm work every day and had set his alarm to arise that morning and when he failed to shut off the alarm his family investigated.

He was born December 18, 1884, in Washington Township, Carroll County, and had spent his entire life in this community. He was the son of Wilken and Lena Karsten, both of whom have preceded him in death.

He was married January 13, 1909, to Miss Bertha Mohr at Manning.

Survivors include one son, Harry Karsten; one daughter, Mrs. William Brus (Leona), Manning; one grandson, Duane Karsten; two brothers, Henry and Emil, his twin brother; four sisters, Mrs. William Opperman (Margaret), Mrs. Gus Vinke (Mary), Mrs. Walter Laurinat (Emma), all of Manning, and Mrs. Herman Rowedder (Katie), Aspinwall.

His wife passed away September 28, 1942. Three brothers, Peter, Hannes and Claus also preceded him in death.


August Karsten is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
