AUGUST KIENAST DIES FOLLOWING A LONG LILLNESS 1943

August Kienast, 78, died about 8 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of his son, Herman Kienast in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, about six miles south of Manning. He had been ill for a year and bedfast since spring.

Funeral services were held in the Trinity Lutheran Church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Walter A. Otto officiating. Burial was in the Lincoln Township Cemetery.

Mr. Kienast who was born January 29, 1865, in Koenigsburg Ost Treusen (Königsberg Ost Preussen - correct spelling - which is East Prussia) Germany, came to the United States when he was 8 years old. At the age of 24 he came to Audubon County from Michigan and has farmed here since that time.

In 1889 he was married to Miss Barbara Ullerich to whom were born six children all of whom are living. They are Herman, Lincoln Township; Mrs. Carl Johnson (Helen) Sioux City; John, Lincoln Township; Mrs. Elsie Jamison; and Mrs. Ida Schuester, Sioux City; Mrs. Mary Jager, Baltimore, Maryland.

The mother of these children died April 1900. Mr. Kienast married Mrs. Minnie R. Rickmann at Lowden, Iowa, to them were born the following children all living.

Arthur Kienast, Audubon County; Harry, Denver Colorado; Mrs. Leonard Ellsberry (Hulda); Mrs. Virgil Ellsberry (Selma); and Hugo Kienast, all of Audubon County; Mrs. Alf Jorgenson (Lillian), Granite Falls, Minnesota; Mrs. Arnold Wagoner (Milda), Clarinda; and Miss Ane Kienast, Aberdeen, Washington. Two step-children also Will Rickman and Mrs. Edna Dozier of Lincoln Township. His second wife died in 1940.

Mr. Kienast was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at the age of 13 years. During his active life he had taken a leading part in the church affairs and had held nearly every office in Trinity Lutheran Church.


Note: In Minnie's obituary her maiden name is Ruttunda and her first husband's name is spelled Riechman.
