Beatrice “Joy” Doyle, 86, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Westside, died at the McCreedy Home in Washington.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, at United Church Westside in Westside.
Burial will be at Westside Cemetery.
Huebner Funeral Home in Westside is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday.

Beatrice Joy Doyle, daughter of Wilford and Elsie (Vandeman) Moore, was born January 12, 1925, at home near Botna. She attended country school and graduated from Manning High School in 1942. She attended Commercial Extension in Omaha and came home to teach country school.

Joy married Dr. Keith A. Doyle, DVM, on May 23, 1945. They made their home in Westside and had five children. Early in their marriage, Joy worked as a substitute teacher, including a long-term assignment in seventh and eighth-grades in the Westside School.

She worked with her husband after they opened the Doyle Pet Medical Clinic. She continued to work with the small animal practice after it was sold to the Breda Veterinary Clinic after Dr. Doyle’s death in 1980.

Joy was a member of United Church, Westside. She taught Sunday school, was president of the Mothers Club, participated in the choir, and served on the church council. She was a longtime Brownie leader, president of the PTA, Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, and served as County Secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Joy lived in her home in Westside until she moved to Iowa City to live with her daughter, Julie, due to failing health in December of 2007. She moved to the McCreedy Home in Washington, Iowa, after a fall in July 2010.

She is survived by her children Kathleen Almelien and husband James of Washington, Iowa; Dr. Daniel Doyle and wife Linda of Monmouth, Illinois; Steven Doyle; Dr. Kimberly Fara and husband John Pea of Manning; and Julie Galloway and husband Steven of Iowa City; 11 grandchildren Andrew and Erin Almelien; Nathan, Ryan, Coleen, and Kaitlyn Doyle; Tina Mills, Keith and Victoria Doyle; Dr. Elizabeth Fara Carter and Megan Fara; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law JoAnn Moore of Arizona; and other relatives and many friends.

Joy is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Gale Moore; son-in-law, Dean Fara; and her beloved dog Holly.
