Benjamin Halbur

Manning Monitor

Obituary.
Ben Halbur was born in Delaware County, Iowa, on the 11th day of October, 1876, died in Manning, Iowa, on the 25th day of May 1908, aged 32 years, 8 months and 14 days. He came to Carroll County in the year 1895 and in the month of October was united in marriage with Emma Hagedorn, to whom has been born one child, Edna, aged 8 years.

The deceased was a kind and indulgent husband and father, honest and upright in his dealings with his fellowmen and at the time of his death was employed by the Fairmont Creamery Company, acting in the capacity of cream gatherer and always at his post except when serious sickness made his absence imperative. His savings for the last two years have been applied toward the payment of his home and in this he was assisted by his wife, who often took his place on the route when he was unable to do so.

For several years Mr. Halbur has not enjoyed good health, suffering more or less for about ten years with heart trouble, which finally caused his death. Ben was always patient and suffered in silence, afflictions and sickness that would have discouraged many of more robust health, yet ever cheerful and ready to meet life's duties, to provide for his family and to meet the call of duty toward his fellowmen.

The best epitaph that can be written on the monument of any person is that "He tried with all the powers that God gave him to do his duty to his family, his associates and his God," and this can be truly said of our departed friend. While we mourn the death of the departed and sympathize with his family in their loss, let us rejoice that he has gone to that land where pain and suffering are unknown and the weary find sweet rest.

The deceased leaves a wife and one daughter, five brothers and one sister and a wide circle of friends to mourn his departure. Three of his brothers, John and William, of this vicinity, and Frank, of Billings, Montana, were present, and to them, to his wife and child and to all his other relatives and friends, we extend our most heartfelt sympathy.

The funeral services, conducted by Rev. Golden, were held Thursday afternoon from the residence. A large concourse of people were present. The body was buried in the Manning Cemetery.

CARD OF THANKS.
Words cannot express our appreciation of those friends who have shared with us the lonely vigils by the bedside of our loved one. No sweeter memory can live in any heart than the memory of their untiring devotion to the one who has just left us. The waves of sorrow break upon every shore and we can but hope that friends as true may gather around each one of them should sorrow invade their homes.
