Ben D. Joens, 65, of Manning died Monday, January 29, 1973, at Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska, after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church, Manning. Pastor Edward F. Heinicke will officiate; pallbearers will be Robert Hagedorn, Ray Jorgensen, Merlin Struve, Alvin W. Martens, Kenneth Dethlefs, and Carl Frank.

Burial will be in Manning Cemetery with the Ohde Funeral Home of Manning in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Joens was born November 1, 1907, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, a son of Detlef and Catherine (Asmus) Joens. He was a graduate of Manilla High School and attended business college in Chillicothe, Missouri.

His marriage to Mildred Wenzel took place August 23, 1933. He worked in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Omaha, Nebraska, before operating his own business for eight years in Cherokee.

For the past 30 years, he had been in the insurance and real estate business in Manning and was active in community affairs.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Melvin (Donna) Clothier of La Crosse, Wisconsin; a son, Roger of Ralston, Nebraska; four grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Ehrichs, Mrs. Minnie Ehrichs, and Mrs. Hertha Behrend, all of Manilla; and a brother, William L. Joens of Manilla.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, Louis, John, and George.
