Bernhardt Joseph Hollander was born October 21, 1952, the son of Bernhardt Henry and Vergene Esther (Bohnsack) Hollander. He died Tuesday. April 23, 2002, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of forty-nine.

Bernie was born in Carroll, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on February 8, 1953, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa, and later confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield, Iowa. He received his education in the Denison Community School and graduated from the Greenfield High School with the class of 1971. After completing his education, Bernie worked for G & H Transfer in Greenfield. Bernie moved to Lake View where he worked as a mechanic for Mid States Equipment. He subsequently worked with his father at the Sportsmen's Lounge in Ida Grove and in 1983, Bernie became the owner. In 1990, Bernie sold the Sportsmen's Lounge and moved to Denison and began his employment at Farmland Foods.

Bernie was a very loving, caring and happy father, son and brother who loved spending time with his grandchildren and boating with his grandson at Lake View. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, playing cards, shooting pool, telling stories and jokes. In his leisure time, Bernie enjoyed sitting out on the patio, enjoying the sun, grilling and mom's potato salad.

Bernie was preceded in death by his grandparents. Survivors include two sons, Jason Hollander of Denison; Braden Hollander of Indianapolis, Indiana; one daughter, Amy Prichard and her husband, Keith of Flowermound, Texas; three grandchildren, Adam Hollander, Carter and Tanner Prichard; his parents, Bernhardt and Vergene Hollander of Denison; one brother, Ron Hollander and his wife, Cheryl of Bellevue, Nebraska; four sisters, Joan Newell and her husband, Wayne of Greenfield; Lynn Powell of Ankeny; Robin Fume and her husband, Craig of Denison; Tracey Bettin and her husband, Tal of Odebolt; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
