Funeral Service for Bernice Laverty was held Monday, October 3, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Manning, Iowa. Reverend Lanette L. Plambeck officiated with Georgia Lohrmann and JoAnn Karsten as vocalists and JoAnn Karsten as organist. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery in Manning, with John Laverty, David Laverty, Dwain Boeck, Leonard Ramsey, Ronald Hodne, and Dennis Ramsey as casketbearers.

A visitation was held at the United Methodist Church in Manning on Monday, October 3 from 1:00 p.m. until the service.

Bessie Bernice, daughter of Charles H. and Bessie M. (Johnson) Ramsey, was born August 17, 1915, near Botna in Shelby County, Iowa. She attended rural schools in Botna and Manning.

On November 10, 1938, Bernice was united in marriage with Charles Laverty in Denison. They made their home in Manning and one child was born to this union. Bernice cared for children in her home for 25 years. Bernice was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. She loved to play cards and visit with family and friends.

Following the death of her husband in December of 1988, Bernice continued to live in their home until moving to the Terrace Apartments. In 2002 her health began to fail and she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home where she died on Friday, September 30, 2005, at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 13 days.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Charles Laverty; brothers and sisters: Mayburn and wife Phyllis Ramsey; Edward Ramsey; Ralph Ramsey; Juanita and Hugo Boeck; Edna and Orla Peters; Thelma and Arlo Hodne; and Nancy Ramsey in infancy; and a sister-in-law Fern Ramsey.

Bernice is survived by her son Robert Laverty and wife Mary of Twin Lakes; three grandchildren: John Laverty and wife Anne; Dr. David Laverty and fiancee Leslie Orr; and Beth and husband Daniel Withee; three great-grandchildren: Megan and Emily Laverty and Jacob Withee; two brothers: Jack Ramsey and wife Edna of Manning; Orrin Ramsey of Manning; and a sister Mary Ramsey of Manning; sisters-in-law: Mildred Ramsey of Carroll; and Delores Ramsey of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
