BERTHA GENZEN

Funeral services for Bertha Genzen were held Monday, January 10, 1977, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke officiating. Organist was Mrs. Dorothy Kusel. Interment was in Manning Cemetery with grandsons as pallbearers. Ohde Funeral home, Manning, was in charge of arrangements.

Bertha Katherine Genzen, daughter of Claus and Anna (Schwieso) Grimm, was born June 17, 1888, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Albert Genzen in 1909. They settled at Haverhill, managing a Fairmont dairy for 3 years. They started farming in Marshall County, moving back to the Manning area in 1915, continuing to farm until Albert's death in 1947. Bertha then moved to Manning and has lived at the Terrace Apartments since they opened. She passed away at the Manning General Hospital on January 7, 1977, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 20 days,

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, and a member of the Ladies' Aid.

Preceding her in death besides her husband were 2 sons, Elmer and Arthur; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Survivors include: Children: Lester, Virgil, Mrs. Odessa Vinke, Ivan, Mrs. LaVonne Gehlsen, Mrs. Lucille Pfannkuch and Robert; a sister, Mrs. Anna Ewoldt, & sister-in-law, Caroline Grimm & Florence Grimm; 23 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

Thank you to ALL that eased the loss of our loved one, Bertha Genzen. Her dearest wish of being remembered as a loving Christian has been re-echoed so many times in so many ways by your tender favors. Her family appreciated the visits of Rev. Heinicke, Dorothy Kusel and Terrace residents, Dr. Myer and hospital staff, the circle for preparing dinner, and all who participated in any way to help us during this trying time. - The family of Bertha Genzen.


Bertha Genzen is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
