Miss Bertha Zeits was born in Germany in the year 1834 and was 67 years old at the time of her death. She came to America when 16 years old and was married five years later, in 1855, to Carl Knapp at Peru, Illinois. Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Knapp, eight of whom, together with the husband and father have preceded her in death. Mr. Knapp died in 1891. Of the surviving children three are daughters and one son, C.G. Knapp, with whom the deceased has made her home for the past ten years. Mrs. Knapp with her family came to Iowa in 1882 and resided in Carroll County until about two years ago when she removed with her son to Sac City where she passed away. She became a Christian in early life and united with the Lutheran Church, but later joined, the M.E. Church of which she was a faithful member until the time of her death. She lived a good life, and has gone to her reward.
