BETTY L. BOYENS

Betty, daughter of Ray and Elsie (Wiese) Holdsworth, was born October 24, 1929, at Manilla, Iowa. She graduated from Manilla High School in 1948. She spent her entire life in Crawford County, Iowa.

On September 18, 1954, she was united in marriage with Lester Boyens at Trinity Lutheran Church, Manilla. They farmed from 1954 to 1981. They had moved to their home in Manilla in 1977. Betty worked in the Manilla State Bank for 16 years and attained the title of Cashier.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Priscilla Guild, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as treasurer of the Manilla Community School Board at one time and also served as secretary-treasurer of the fund raising board for the Manilla Manor Nursing Home for many years until her health began to fail.

Betty died Monday, November 7, 1983, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 54 years and 14 days.

Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Holdsworth, and her father-in-law, Fred Boyens.

She is survived by her husband Lester, of Manilla; one daughter Kristie Jacobson, and her husband Tom of Manning; two sons, Kevin & Keith Boyens of Manilla; two stepsons, Loren Boyens of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Steven Boyens of Geneva, Iowa; one grandson, John Jacobson, Manning; 7 step-grandchildren; her father, Ray Holdsworth, Manilla; her mother-in-law, Hanna Boyens, Manilla; one sister, Virginia, Mrs. Gilbert Mundt, Manilla; two brothers, Merle Holdsworth, Denison, & Vernon Holdsworth, Perry; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Services for Betty Boyens were held Thursday, November 10, 1983, 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Manilla, Iowa, with Pastor Glenn Wiechmann officiating. Marian Joens was organist, Kay Rutherford, Carol Ann Segebart & Marlene Jahn were vocalists. Interment was in Nishnabotna Cemetery with Dennis Holdsworth, Dean Holdsworth, Don Holdsworth, Tom Holdsworth, Harry Mundt and Verdell Mundt as casketbearers.
