Blondina Carstens

Blondina Leanna Christina, daughter of John and Caroline (Petersen) Grimm, was born April 10, 1911, near Manning, Carroll County, Iowa. The family moved to a farm in Crawford County near Aspinwall where she attended rural school. Blondina graduated from Manning High School in 1928.

On August 21, 1932, Blondina was united in marriage with Harry Carstens. Three children were born to this union. Blondina worked for several companies in Manning before her longtime employment with Manning Creamery Company.

During her retirement she worked at the Corner Cafe for many years.

Blondina was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning where she had been baptized and confirmed. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She loved to play cards, watch and listen to sporting events and, above all, spend time with her family.

In January of 1999, Blondina suffered a stroke and her health began to decline at that time. She entered the Manning Plaza in March of 1999. After surgery and a short stay at the Manning Regional Healthcare Center, she died there on Saturday, July 1, 2000, at the age of 89 years, 2 months, and 21 days.

Besides her parents, Blondina is preceded in death by her husband; daughter Karen Wiebers; and sister and brother-in-law Naemi and Julius Schroeder.

She is survived by two sons Lenny Carstens and his wife Sheryl of Council Bluffs, IA and Kenard Carstens and his wife Vicki of Harlan, IA; son-in-law Robert Wiebers of Parkville, MO; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
