Mrs. Hagedorn taught piano to hundreds of Manning children, played with small dance bands for 50 years and continued to teach until a few years ago. She played piano and organ for the United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church at Manning for over 50 years. She was the principal organist at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home and in the early motion picture days she accompanied the films with piano music.

For 32 years, she and her brother, Emil, operated the popular Virginia Cafe in Manning, in four different locations on Main Street. She was once selected as the Carroll County Senior Citizen of the Year and was also the recipient of the Manning Community Service Award.

She was a member of the Manning Chamber of Commerce and in her earlier years served as secretary of the Community Chest. She was a charter member and official pianist for the American Legion Auxiliary and was a life member of the national Presbyterian Women's organization.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 19, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Randy Ross, minister of First Presbyterian church, officiating. Music will be by the Presbyterian choir with Judy Joens as soloist. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers will be Ray Pratt, George Fischer, Ralph Grundmeier, LeRoy Albertsen, Gary Schroeder and Lyle Arp.

Mrs. Hagedorn is survived by a grandson, Steven P. Mock and his wife, Kathryn, Houston, Tex.; three great-grandchildren: Justin, Jamie and Kasey Mock; a son-in-law, Leo Bruck, Manning; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry Hagedorn; a daughter Patricia L. Bruck on October 13, 1985; brothers Pete, Emil, Henry, and Robert Kuhl, and a sister, Mrs. Marvin (Rose) Lamp.

Mrs. Hagedorn was born on a farm at the west edge of Manning on October 13, 1897, a daughter of Peter and Louisa (Lohmeier) Kuhl. She began taking piano lessons at the age of nine. At the age of 15, she was playing professionally with the old Manning German Band at dances and other events. She left Manning High school in the 11th grade to play with different bands.

In 1918, she enrolled in Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, where she studied piano and harmony. Then she was called home to play with the popular Pete Kuhl and his Seven Aces band. She was married to Harvey Wood in the early 1920s and to Henry Hagedorn in the 1930s.
