Bonnie Bluml

Mass of Christian Burial was held for Bonnie Bluml Friday, December 19, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Manning, Iowa.

Reverend James McAlpin was Celebrant with Ray Thielen as Lector, and Shelby Hansen and Ericka Tank as Mass Servers. Music was provided by the Sacred Heart Choir with Pat Heithoff as organist. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning, Iowa with Jessica Bluml, Kristin Bluml, Jamie Bluml, Danielle Barth, Robert Niehaus and Rodney Niehaus as casketbearers.

Bonnie Elizabeth, daughter of Henry and Adeliene (Stangl) Niehaus, was born February 4, 1924, in Arcadia, Iowa. When Bonnie was a young girl, she moved with her family to a farm south of Templeton near Gray. She attended school in Gray and graduated from Manning High School in 1941. Following her schooling Bonnie worked at Priebe & Sons Hatchery in Manning, Iowa.

On April 13, 1946, Bonnie was united in marriage with Jerome "Jerry" Bluml at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Three sons were born to this union. Bonnie and Jerry first made their home in Glidden and Bonnie worked as a bookkeeper at Pioneer Seed Corn in Coon Rapids. The family then lived on a farm west of Carroll until 1961. They then rented a farm near Gray until purchasing the present family farm northwest of Manning in 1978.

Bonnie helped on the farm until she became a resident of Manilla Manor Nursing Home in Manilla. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manning and the Holy Name Society. In her spare time Bonnie enjoyed sewing, gardening and reading and was an excellent cook and baker, especially cinnamon rolls and bread.

On Monday, December 15, 2003, Bonnie died from complications of diabetes at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa. She was 79 years, 10 months, and 11 days of age.

Besides her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by two sisters: Elaine Hansen and Ruth Roderick; three brothers: Earl Niehaus, John (Jack) Niehaus, and Mick Niehaus; four brothers-in-law: Jim Bluml, Sylvester Irlbeck, Vernon Hinners, and Loras Stork; two sisters-in-law: Delores Odendahl and Esther Rohe.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jerry Bluml of Manning, Iowa; three sons: David Bluml and wife Diana of Evans-dale, Iowa; Thomas Bluml and wife Janell of Audubon, Iowa; and Michael Bluml of Manning, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Danielle and husband Todd Barth, Jeanne Bluml, Monica Watson, David Carl Watson, Jessica Bluml, Kristin Bluml, and Jamie Bluml; two great-grandchildren: Dillon and Katelyn Barth; a sister Arlene Auen of Alameda, California; brothers-in-law: Elmer Bluml and wife Bernice of Carroll, Iowa; Larry Bluml and wife Faye of Carroll, Iowa; Glenn Bluml and wife Sharon of Hawarden, Iowa; Don Bluml and wife Carol of Dubuque, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Ardella Irlbeck of Templeton, Iowa; Ardith and husband Albert Sturm of Manning, Iowa; Margaret Hinners of Manning, Iowa; Charlene Stork of Glidden, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
