Auguste Bunz

Auguste Viktoria, daughter of Heinrich and Caroline Levsen Kolln, was born September 18, 1904, on the island of Pellworm, Germany. She was baptized on October 18, 1904 and confirmed on April 13, 1919. Auguste attended school on Pellworm, took classes in Hamburg to become a secretary and bookkeeper and then returned to Pellworm.

Auguste became engaged to Johannes Bunz who shortly thereafter moved to Manning, Iowa. Due to the depression Johannes had to prove he could financially support Auguste before she was allowed to come to the United States. Five years later in 1933, Auguste arrived in Manning and on November 14, 1933, Auguste and Johannes were united in marriage in Carroll. Two children were born to this union. Auguste and Johannes made their home in Manning. After Johannes died on December 22, 1963, Auguste was able to remain in her home until becoming a resident of the Manning Plaza in early 2000.

Auguste was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and listening to music.

On December 1, 2000 Auguste entered Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning where she died following a brief illness on Thursday, December 14, 2000. She was 96 years, 2 months and 26 days of age.

Besides her parents and husband, Auguste was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters and a grandson Bryce Duarte.

She is survived by two children: Claus Bunz and his wife Judy of Manning, and Elke Bunz of San Luis Obispo, California; three grandchildren: Sara and her husband Jeffrey Pulse of Bremerton, Washington; Anne and her husband Matthew Sheeley of Des Moines; and John Bunz and his wife Susan of Des Moines; five great-grandchildren: Nathaniel, Jonathan and Mikal Soo Pulse, and Samuel and Ellen Bunz; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
