Verna was united in marriage with Marvin Meggers. They made their home in Denison with their son Stephen. In 1953, after Marvin's death, Verna began working for Crouse Cartage Company in Denison. When they moved their business to Carroll Verna also moved to Carroll where she continued working for CCC for a total of 26 years.

Verna was united in marriage with Harold Buthman on May 31, 1958. They made their home in Carroll until 1981 when they moved to Irwin. Harold died in 1992.

Verna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. She was an avid coin collector in her early years and was always busy with many kinds of handicrafts. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

When Verna's health began to fail, she became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home. She transferred to the Manning Regional Healthcare Center late afternoon the day before her death there on Wednesday, February 27, 2002. She was 85 years, 7 months and 7 days of age at the time of her death.

Preceding Verna in death are her parents and husbands.

She is survived by her son Stephen Meggers of Manning; brother Wilmer Ehrichs of Denison; neices, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
