Carl K. Borkowski, 86

Carl, son of Carl and Elizabeth (Ketelsen) Borkowski, was born April 4, 1903, in Lincoln Township, Audubon County. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township and was educated in country schools and Trinity Lutheran Parochial School. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township, later transferring his membership to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Irwin.

June 20, 1928, he married Lucy Gawley. Three children, Gene, Vernon, and Sharon were born to this union. He first farmed in Lincoln Township, moving to a farm in Shelby County, east of Irwin in 1939. Because of failing health he moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon on December 21, 1987. He died at the Friendship Home, January 11, 1990, at age 86 years, 9 months, and 7 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by his brother, Alfred; by his sisters, Leona Clark and Mathilda Frank. Survivors include his wife, Lucy of rural Manning; his children, Gene Borkowski, Vernon Borkowski of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and Sharon (Dean) Axland of Nevada, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; his brother, Ferdinand Borkowski of Harlan; his sisters, Ida (Felix) Hagedorn of Flandreau, South Dakota, and Elsie (Art) Deist of Audubon; his brother-in-law, Earl Frank of Hopkins, Minnesota, as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Services were held January 13, 1990, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Irwin, with Pastor Douglas Mathison, officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin. Casketbearers were Kevin Borkowski, David Borkowski, Steven Borkowski, Tylynn Borkowski, Kyle Borkowski, Gavin Borkowski, and Todd Axland.
