CARL ERNST FRANK

Carl, son of Ernst and Lizzie Meyer Frank, was born June 11, 1904, on the family farm in Shelby County, Iowa. He was baptized on July 8, 1906, in the Lutheran faith by the Reverend A. Engelke. He attended Shelby County Schools through the eighth grade and was graduated from Irwin High School in 1923. He moved with his family, to a farm south of Manning in 1927. He lived and farmed there the rest of his life.

Carl was united in Marriage with Marjorie Moore Frank at Denison, Iowa on August 17, 1940. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lincoln Township, Audubon County Iowa where he was confirmed in 1951 by the Reverend William Kanning. He was active in many church affairs, concentrating his efforts on the finance board. He served on the Manning Community Hospital Association Board of Directors during the time of the organization and building of the new hospital facility. Carl also served, at one time, as Lincoln Township Trustee for Audubon County.

Carl died unexpectedly and suddenly at his home Sunday, March 13, 1983, at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 2 days.

Services were held Friday, March 18, 1983 at 2 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa, with Pastor C. Thomas Scher officiating. Dorothy Kusel was organist. Interment was in Manning Cemetery. Active casketbearers were Harry Dreier, Ernest Plagman, William Ahrendsen, Ray Christensen, Wade Mohr and Dwain Nordby. Honorary casketbearers were Harold Asmus, Robert Dunlap, Leslie Greve, Wilber Anthony, Robert Moore, Alfred Dammann and Leslie Doyel. Ohde Funeral Home, Manning, was in charge of arrangements.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters in infancy, a brother Herman in 1936, and a granddaughter Sandra.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie of Manning; a son Russell and his wife Linda of Manning; three grandchildren, Vicki of Spencer, Kim and Rod, both of Manning; three sisters, Emma, Mrs. Louis Plagman of Harlan, Mamie, Mrs. Henry Plagmann of Harlan, Fern; Mrs., Wilber Anthony, Manning, a brother Otto Frank, Manning, a brother-in-law, Clinton Moore, Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.


Carl Frank is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
