Carol Gruhn
Carol Evelyn, daughter of Louie and Minnie (Etler) Paulsen, was born July 31, 1915, at Battle Creek, Iowa. She received her education in rural schools until junior high when the family moved to Battle Creek where she graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1934. After graduation she worked as secretary for the superintendent of Battle Creek schools until 1944 when she began working as a bookkeeper at the Battle Creek Hospital.

In 1956 she moved to Manning where she was bookkeeper at Manning General Hospital until her marriage.

On September 14, 1968, Carol was united in marriage with Arthur Gruhn at the Presbyterian Church at Battle Creek. They lived on a farm on the east edge of Manning until they retired in 1998 and moved to an apartment in Manning. Art died January 21, 2000.

Carol dearly enjoyed the company of all of her nieces and nephews during her 90°' Birthday party held in the summer of 2005.

In March of 2006, Carol became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. She died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa. She was 90 years, 9 months and 20 days of age.

Besides her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by her brothers: Fred Paulsen and wife Helen, Leigh Paulsen and wife Viola; Harold Paulsen and wife Clara and two brothers in infancy; sisters: Mildred and husband Kenneth Rogers, Ethel Craven and a twin sister Cathryn Paulsen; three nieces: Vernelle Cook, Shirley Matthews and Phyllis Nielsen and a nephew Stanley Fries.

She is survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.
