Carolina Karstens

Carolina Elsie Karstens nee Plahn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Plahn, was born in Carroll County, Iowa, June 5, 1897.

At the age of 12 years she moved with her parents to Pierce, Nebraska. Here she grew into young womanhood.

She was married to Emil Karsten April 30, 1919, and they had a happy married life in this vicinity, since. To them was born a daughter on March 24, 1921. For her, that she might have life the mother entered the Valley of the Shadow and never rallied to health again. The passing of her spirit to that other world quite suddenly on April 27, 1921. She was aged 23 years, 10 months and 2 days.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her loving husband, Emil Karstens, her little daughter Bernice Emma, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. William Plahn, five sisters, Mrs. Emma Altwine, Mrs. Emile Miller, Hattie Hilda and Emma Plahn, and three brothers, Herman, Henry and William Plahn, all of Pierce, Nebraska.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W.H. Meredith at the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon and the remains laid to rest in the Manning Cemetery. The sympathy of all are with the young husband now left alone to care for his baby daughter bereft of its mother while in the beginning of her life and our prayers are that they all may find strength and comfort in the good God above.
