CARSTEN HERMAN JAHN

Carsten, son of Paul William and Catherine (Lempster) Jahn, was born November 22, 1885, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He attended schools in Hayes Township and farmed with his father.

On February 16, 1910, he was united in marriage with Alfrieda Schroeder. They continued farming in Hayes Township and were blessed with four children.

In late 1947, they retired from farming and moved to Manning. Carsten was active in the insurance business for over 50 years while on the farm and after they moved to Manning.

On December 24, 1965, his wife died. Carsten continued to live in his own home in Manning until January 8, 1979, when he entered Manning General Hospital. He died there March 3, 1979, at the age of 93 years, 3 months, 11 days.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, three brothers, William, Henry, and Louie, three sisters, Lena Kuhl, Minna Meggers, and Amanda Peper, one grandchild, Larry Jahn, and one great grandchild.

He is survived by four children, Louie P.H. Jahn, Manning; Marie, Mrs. Carl Brus, Manning; Mrs. Marina Rowe, Saratoga, Calif. and Paul C.H. Jahn, Denison; one brother, Hugo H. Jahn, Manilla; one sister, Mrs. Adele Mordhorst, Chyenne, Wyo.; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held March 6, at 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning. Officiating was Pastor Edward F. Heinicke. Organist was Mrs. Dorothy Kusel.

Interment was in the Manning Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hugo P.H. Jahn, Roy Jahn, Wayne Jahn, Lester Meggers, Vernon Schroeder and Marcus Kuhl.

Carsten Jahn is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
