Another Mother Gone.
The death of Mrs. Brunnier occurred at her home last Saturday, April 11, 1908. Mrs. Catherine Brunnier, nee Fruchtenicht, was born near Elmshorn, Holstein, Germany, March 3, 1830. She was married to Julius Brunnier in 1851. In early days they moved to America, settling first at Davenport. In 1877 they moved with their family to Carroll County, where she has since resided, her husband having died the year after moving here. She lived in a little home of her own close beside her two sons, Martin and Julius, where they, with their families, always looked after her and attended to her every want.

Mother Brunnier was one of the good, kind old ladies you always love to meet. But her struggles and burden bearing are ended. She went to sleep like a tired child. She had run the journey of her life, it was a path marked with kindness and cheer; flowers, not thorns, sunshine, not shadow, did she scatter everywhere. Truth was the inspiration of her life. She was an every day Christian. The beautifying influence of a pure religion was spread over a life and character as spotless and charming as was ever possessed by any of the noble women who have died during the ages that have gone. The end was as peaceful as a beautiful summer day. She was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church and was always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need, both in acts of kindness and in works. As the death dew gathered over her brow, around her bed were her boys, always boys to her, although they are now grown to mature years and have boys of their own.

The life so long interwoven with theirs, with tearful eyes they watched it slowly but surely pass over.

The love of a mother for her children passeth human understanding. They may grow away from her, but she never from them.

Impressive funeral services were held at the Lutheran church at this place, Rev. Johann Ansorge officiating. All that was mortal of this grand old mother was tenderly conveyed to the silent city at Arcadia where, by the side of a devoted husband, she now rests in peace. She leaves to mourn four sons, Julius and Martin, of Manning; Henry, of Grass Valley, California; Emil, of Mobile, Alabama; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
