Obituary
Charles Kusel was born at Walnut, Iowa, November 15, 1878, a son of Christian and Wilhelmina (Wohlert) Kusel. When he was 11 years old, in 1889, the Kusel family moved to Bloomfield into our community onto a farm one mile east and one-half mile south of town. Here he grew up to manhood. He joined First Trinity Lutheran Church as a communicant member in 1931 and remained a member of the Lutheran Church.

In later years, due to ill health and physical weakness, he took the advice of a medical doctor to go west for his health. In answer to this request he lived for a season at Kearney, Nebraska.

However, his health failed him gradually, and although sickly he passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday evening, November 20, at the age of 68 years and 6 days.

Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, the Rev. A. Ollenburg who chose for the funeral sermon: "A Humble Sinner, A Believer in Jesus his Savior."

His survivors are five sisters: Mrs. Henry Friedrichsen, Manning, Iowa; Mrs. Matilda Wulf, White Lake, South Dakota; Mrs. Victor Carlson, Vale, South Dakota; Mrs. Edwin Adams, Yankton, South Dakota; Mrs. Henry Martens, Newell, South Dakota. Also surviving is an aged aunt, 90, at Manning, Iowa.

Among the 25 nieces and nephews are three who reside in this community: Harvey Adams, Louie Kusel and Mrs. Ed Brunken.

Among the relatives from out-of-town attending the services were Mrs. Rosa Friedrichsen, Miss Flora Friedrichsen, Emil Friedrichsen and Mr. and Mrs. Emil David, Manning, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. William Friedrichsen, Watertown, South Dakota; Mrs. Lena Carlson, Vale, South Dakota; Mrs. Anna Martens, Newell, South Dakota; Mrs. Matilda Wulf, White Lake, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Adams, Yankton, South Dakota, and Mr. and Mrs. Jude Brockman of Hartington, South Dakota.

Memorial wreaths were given in his behalf for the Lutheran Hour and institutions of charity to the amount of $24.50.

The Monitor wishes to add its note of sincere sympathy to the relatives in the passing of Mr. Kusel.
