Charlotte DeVries

Charlotte Ann DeVries, age 69, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the University Iowa Hospital in Iowa City due to complications following a liver transplant.

A Celebration of Charlotte's Life will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in Glidden with Rev. Brian Camara officiating. A reception will follow at the Lincoln Club in Glidden.

Born on January 9, 1944 at Rawlins, Wyoming, she was the daughter of John and Ruth (Pickrel) Humphrey. She grew up in Wyoming and her family moved to Hamlin, Iowa, in 1954. Charlotte graduated from Exira High School in 1962. Following high school she worked for the Audubon High School and later the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. She was married to Warren Fischer in August of 1963 and the couple made their home in Manning. He passed away in May of 1985. She was then married to Larry DeVries in July of 1987. Larry and Charlotte lived in Glidden and she operated Charlie's Designs and Signs for 10 years along with helping her husband on the farm. Charlotte was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Glidden where she held many offices and did committee work. She was also a member of the L&L Club in Glidden for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed golfing, traveling, spending the winters in Arizona, cooking, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Charlotte is survived by her husband Larry of Glidden; two sons: Troy Fischer and his fiancee Vi Price of Yankton, South Dakota, and Gale Fischer and his wife Kathy of Battle Creek, Michigan; two step-sons: Bart DeVries and his wife Joni of Des Moines and Bret DeVries and his wife Susan of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; two brothers: Jack Humphrey and his wife Shirley of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Dick Humphrey and his wife Jodi of Phoenix, Arizona; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Warren.
