Dr. Chris Celania, 53, of 2626 Kenwood, went to be with Jesus at 6:05 p.m. February 5, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

He was born September 24, 1954, in Ottumwa to Donald and Norma Van Ekeren Celania. He married Kim Kelly May 31, 1980, at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1973, he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University in 1979. He practiced veterinary medicine for 7 years in Manning, for 5 years in Revere and Magnolia, MA, and moved to Ottumwa in 1991 to join Ottumwa Veterinary Clinic.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Promise Keepers.

Surviving is his wife, Kim Kelly; two daughters, Meagan at Iowa State University and Kelsey at home; two sisters, Patricia (Bob) White of Woodbridge, VA, Maribeth (Henry) Karwath of Davenport; and a brother, Dan (Marcia) Celania of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Young officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for his children's education and left at the funeral home or sent to the family.

 

Dr. Christopher Celania

Dr. Celania received his D.V.M. in 1979 from Iowa State University. Upon graduation, Dr. Celania joined a mixed animal practice in Manning, Iowa. This practice experience in all species was followed by additional training in companion animal medicine at the Atlantic Animal Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Celania brings a wealth of clinical experience and knowledge to his patients. He has an unmatched desire to share that experience and knowledge with his clients and patients. Dr. Celania has developed a high level of expertise in both soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, as well as meeting the veterinary care needs of numerous non-traditional animal species.

Chris is a native of Ottumwa and an OHS graduate. Chris and his wife, Kim, are participants and leaders in many community activities. Chris and Kim are the parents of two daughters, Megan and Kelsey.
