Christian Georgius

Christian Christopher Georgius was born, one of five children, October, 19, 1841, in Heringsdorf, Holstein, Germany. As a young man of twenty-four, he came to America in company with his brother Dennis, preceding his father and mother 2 years. They stayed for three years in Cleveland, Ohio, then moved to Clinton County, Iowa, where he lived seven years before moving to Crawford County. On a farm west and north of Manning he lived for about forty-five years.

In October 1884 he was married to Tina Sievertsen. To them were born two sons, William, who died last winter and Henry who has lived with his father and farmed the home place. His wife died on December 17, 1894, and left him to care for the children alone. His father, mother, his brother, Henry and a sister, Mrs. Henry D. Radeleff also preceded him in death. After a brief sickness of a few days he went to sleep never again to waken here, having reached the age of 79 years, one month and fifteen days.

He was one of the earliest settlers in Crawford County and knew all the hardships and joys of pioneer life.

Many are the changes that have come in his time. Honest, law-abiding, never meddlesome but a good neighbor he was in every respect.

He leaves to mourn his demise, one son, Henry Georgius, his brother Dennis who has been his companion for years, a sister, Mrs. C.H. Langbehn of Tacoma, Washington, and many other relatives and friends.

Rev. Meredith of the Methodist Church of Manning conducted the funeral services at the old home Sunday afternoon at one o'clock, and at the Township Cemetery where his moral remains were laid at rest with those of many of his old time friends.
