Mrs. Christina Lage
Dies at Age of 89
1850 - 1940

Christina Lage nee Bloemer, was born at Bentheim, in the Province of Hanover, Germany, March 15, 1850. She spent her younger days in her native country, was baptized and confirmed in the faith of the Reformed church. She grew to womanhood in her homeland and was united in marriage to Jan Wolters of Enshede, in Holland. This union was blessed with two children, one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Mayer of Manning; and a son, William Wolters of Denver, Colorado. This happy union was of short duration as her husband was taken from her by death in 1879.

At the age of 33, she came with her two children to America, settling in the vicinity of Manning, where in the year of 1888 she married with Mr. Claus Lage, with whom she settled on a farm north of Manning, where Mr. Lage passed away in 1900.

After the death of her husband the deceased came to Manning where she has resided since, where for the last seven years she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mayer.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Mayer, her son Wm. Wolters, of Denver, Colorado; her step-children, Mrs. Charley Grundmeier of Kelliher, Minnesota; Mrs. Emil (Lena) Dammann of Manning; Herman Lage of Humboldt, Iowa; and Jake Lage of Manning. She also leaves 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and man friends in the past who have gone on before. She was a good old, mother; a hard worker and a loyal friend.

Funeral service were conducted by the Reverend Alexander Wimberly, Pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Manning in the Ohde Funeral Home at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon choosing they text from "John 14:3", "That where I am, there ye be also."

Interment was made at the Manning cemetery.

Pall bearers were John J. Struve, Henry Meyers Sr., P. H. Jones, Julius Wehrmann, Ed Breckenridge, F. J. McMahon.



Christina Blömer and her first husband Jan Wolters had 4 children. One daughter was still born, and a son born in 1878 died in 1882 before she made the journey to the US.


Christina Lage is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
