Funeral services for Clara J. Claussen were held Sunday, August 29, 1982, at 2:00 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa. The Reverend Dennis Johnson of the First Presbyterian Church. Organist was Connie Siepker and vocalist was Ray Pratt.

Interment was in Manning Cemetery with Eddie Fischer, Labert Stahl, Jr. Ray Sander, Lyle Arp, Max Detlefsen & Willis Myrtue as casketbearers.

Eastern Star Memorial Service was held at the Ohde Funeral Home Saturday, August 28, 1982, at 8:30 p.m.

Clara Juliette, daughter of Henry and Dorothea (Vinke) Ewoldt, was born September 25, 1887, in Hayes Township, Crawford, County, Iowa. When she was seven years old she moved with her family to Manning, Iowa, where she attended the schools and lived all of her life. She became a professional dressmaker for some years, and later a bookkeeper for the early Priebe and W.B. Parrott Company.

On May 15, 1908, Clara was united in marriage with Claus J. Claussen. Mr. Claussen passed away in 1959.

Clara had been in ill health for a number of years and has been a resident of the Manning Plaza since 1970. She passed away at the Manning General Hospital Wednesday, August 25, 1982, at the age of 94 years and 11 months.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Emelie Schumann, Mrs. Emma Myrtue, Mrs. Louise Boettger, Mrs. Laura Schroeder, Mrs. Amanda Wunder, William Ewoldt and Henry Ewoldt. She is survived by the following children: Ila, Mrs. Arthur Rix, Manning; Alvera, Mrs. Gale Miller, Jacksonville, Florida; Glen Claussen, San Marcos, California; and Gene Claussen, Iowa City, Iowa; by 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Irene Meier of Harlan, as well as by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Clara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Manning, a member of Chapter I S, P.E.O., and a past matron and fifty year member of the Salona Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She also served the chapter as secretary for 25 years. She was a charter member of the Manning Garden Club and U-Go-I-Go Club. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of a regular team until she was past 80 years of age.


Clara Claussen is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
