Death of Claus Hinrichs.
March 11, 1909 Manning Monitor

Claus Hinrichs, who is well known northwest of Manning, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Tim Anthony, on last Monday, March 8. He had been ailing for some time with dropsy and for the past year had been confined to his bed a large part of his time, until death relieved him of his suffering.

Claus Hinrichs was born May 23, 1823, at Winnert, Schleswig Holstein, Germany. He was married to Anna Jensen in 1846, five children being born to them, namely: Mary Schroeder, of Scott County; Hans Hinrichs, of South Dakota; Katherine Anthony, Margaret Ranniger and Anna Miller, wife of Fred Miller, of this city. Besides these five children he also leaves a stepdaughter, Mrs. Adam Short, of Vail, to mourn his loss.

He emigrated to Scott county in 1865 from Germany. His wife died in 1869 and in 1871 he was married to Mrs. Anna (Rohr) Voss, and they moved to Crawford County where his second wife died in 1899. Since that time he has made his home among his children.

He was laid to rest in the Hayes Township Cemetery Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Faut, of Westside, officiating.
