Claus Kuhl died Sunday after a Year's Illness - Old Respected Resident of Manilla Died at His Home in Manilla on Sunday at 3:45 O'clock - Funeral Services Wednesday. He Leaves to Mourn His Death His Wife, Seven Children, Other Relatives and Many Friends.

Manilla, September 22 - Claus Kuhl, a well-known and highly respected citizen of Manilla during the past fifteen years, passed away at this home here Sunday, September 18, 1932, at 3:45 o'clock.

Mr. Kuhl's health had been gradually failing for almost a year, his ailment being anemia. However, he refused to give up and it was only on the Tuesday preceding his death that he consented to remain at home. He was always strong and robust and this was practically the first occasion in his lifetime that he was forced by physical ailments to be confined to his bed.

Claus Kuhl was born May 12, 1854, in Stakendorf, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He was reared and lived in the country of his birth until he reached the age of 19 years and there he was also baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. In 1873 he came to the United States locating at Davenport, Iowa.

December 7, 1877, he was united in marriage with Anna Dittmar, who survives him. To this union eleven children were born, four of whom preceded their father in death, the last to pass away being Theodore of Denison.

Claus became a citizen in 1892 in Carroll, Iowa.
