CLEO CLINTON CHAMBERLAIN
Cleo Clinton Chamberlain, 70, of Manning, a retired farmer who was active in many Masonic orders, died of cancer Tuesday, June 5, 19, 84, at the Manning General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at First Presbyterian church in Manning with the Revs. Dennis Johnson and Carl Sinning officiating, Odessa Wycoff will be organist and the Presbyterian Church choir, directed by Helen Ohde, will sing. Burial, under the direction of the Ohde Funeral Home of Manning, will be in the Manning Cemetery. Serving as active casketbearers will be Orville Hinze, Ronald Frahm, Clifford Tank, Harold Schmidt, Bill Opperman, and Dick Crandall. Honorary bearers will be Orin Pratt, Clifford "Bud" Johnson, and Andrew Leinen.

An Order of the Eastern Star service will be conducted at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, followed by a Masonic memorial service.

Mr. Chamberlain is survived by a brother, Lyle and his wife "Babe," Mesa, Arizona; five sisters: Merle Moody and Mildred Christensen, O'Neill, Nebraska; Eurabelle Olsen, Bayard, Nebraska; and Ruby Bucklin and Faye Hill, Manning; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: William and Robert, and a sister, Lois Hurd.

Mr. Chamberlain was born February 3, 1914, at Lynch, Nebraska, a son of Clinton Cody and Clara (Eckley) Chamberlain. He moved with his parents to Winner, South Dakota, where he attended elementary and high school. In 1933, he moved with his parents to a farm south of Manning. In 1967, because of ill health, he sold the farm and moved into Manning where he took care of his mother until her death in July of 1970.

In 1971, his sister came to make her home with him. After moving to Manning he worked on farms for Elmer Herbers, Orville Hinze, and others.

He was a 36-year member of Manual Lodge 450, A.F. & A.M., and was several times master and secretary-treasurer for 10 years. A member of the Consistory of Sioux City, he was awarded the pin and cap of honor for getting 10 members from the Manning area to join the Consistory. He was a member of the Northwest Shrine Club of Denison and took an active part by wearing a dog suit in Centennial parades. He was a 32nd degree Shriner of Abu Bekr, Sioux City. He was Alma member of Salona Chapter, O.E.S. for many years, holding many offices in-eluding Worthy Patron. He was an elder, trustee and secretary-treasurer of the Presbyterian Church Memorial committee for 10 years. He was also president of the L&M. Bowling League for many years.
